Elks schedule fishing rodeo.

The youth rodeo will be held on Thursday at the Bedford Elks. Registration begins at 4 p.m. with fishing from 5-6 p.m. The event is open to boys and girls ages 12 and under. Children are asked to bring their fishing poles, bait, a bucket, and chair. Fish and prizes are sponsored by Miller's Recycling and Juniata Trading.

Bloody Run Historical Society member Barb Miller will offer a presentation on one-room schoolhouses and the old Everett High School during a program at 1 p.m. June 10 at the Everett Free Library. Following Miller's presentation, attendees will be asked to share stories and pictures.

Tre es, mammals and turtles will be discussed.

Blue Knob State Park will host a short walk along Chappells Field Trail at 7 p.m. June 9 for people interested in learning about basic tree identification and common trees in the state. A program on common and uncommon mammals that share the forest, fields and streams of Blue Knob will be offered at 7 p.m. June 10 at the Buck Hill Amphitheater. Mounts will be on display, and participants will have the chance to play a game. Turtles will be featured in a program at 10 a.m. June 11 at the amphitheater. Participants will learn what the eat, where they live and how to identify them and will be able to make a turtle craft..

A program on logging history will be offered.

Shawnee State Park will present "Pennsylvania's Forest and Logging History" at 7 p.m. June 11 in the Historic & Interpretive Center at the main office. The program will take attendees on a journey from early Pennsylvania's endless forests, its barren landscapes, to the forest's rebirth. Attendees can see the tools and devices used to fell and cut up trees. Booklets on "Common Trees of Pennsylvania and Threats to the Forest" will be provided free to participants. Penn State Extension to offer webinar.

Extension will host a "Large-Scale Solar from the Developer Perspective" presentation at noon on June 15. The webinar will engage with large-scale solar (often called utility-scale) developers working on projects in Pennsylvania. Topics for this webinar will include challenges that developers are facing. This will include interconnection, supply chain, environmental, and local zoning/siting issues. Workforce development and agrivoltaics also will be discussed. The webinar is geared toward municipal officials considering creating and adopting zoning ordinances, landowners who have been approached for leasing and business owners who might be considering installing large solar arrays. Fundraiser set for July.

Bedford County Pink Ribbon fund will host a "Beer, Bubbly and Chocolate" fundraiser from 2 to 5 p.m. July 23 at the Bedford Brewing Company. Entertainment will be provided by Kenny Fetterman. Tickets are $25 per person and can be purchased from any Pink Ribbon board member or at Howard Hannah Bardell Realty and Bedford Brewing Company. No tickets will be sold at the door. Proceeds will benefit the Pink Ribbon Fund that helps people battling breast cancer.

Children's art camps planned.

Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Bedford will host children's art camp from June 26-30 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bedford. Deb Bunnell will be the teacher. During the one-week camp, students will be introduced and explore a multitude of art mediums and skills. Children ages 5 to 9 years old will meet from 9 a.m. to noon, while children ages 10 to 14 will meet from 1 to 4 p.m. Pre-packaged snacks will be provided daily. The cost for the camp is $125 per child, which includes all materials and snacks. A $25 non-refundable deposit is requested at registration with the remainder due on the first day of camp.
