WAYLAND, MI – A 2005 article from USA Today identified pole vaulting as the third-hardest thing to do in all of sports behind only hitting a baseball and driving a racecar.

Yet, Wayland freshman Evie Mathis can make clearing a 11-foot bar by pushing off a fiberglass pole appear effortless.
